A beautiful, slow, dignified and evocative carol for mixed choir. The words are from a poem by Bruce Blunt and have been set to music by Peter Warlock. Arrangement for SATB with a Piano accompaniment, included for rehearsal purposes, though this piece should be performed as a choir without accompaniment wherever possible.
This is a beautiful carol, dreamy, mysterious and I expect it to make an impact at our Carol Service. The arrangement is straightforward, but the harmonies are difficult. My twelve strong choir of mainly adult non musicians, some of whom can't read music, are coping well - with application and perseverance. I would recommend this, but perhaps not for a children's choir. Anonym

This is a beautiful carol - Warlock at his best. The "easy" rating is somewhat missleading - although the tune is relatively simple the harmony is not. Your average church choir would need to put in some work to do this piece justice. Well worth the effort though. Anonym

A very easy piece to follow, and also easy to adapt for a less complicated version.
A well known piece, and justifiably a very popular piece. Anonym
