Gives many more examples of aural tests than the Abrsm Specimen aural tests book does.

It is standard raising insofar as it's
a guide to the exam contents and
gives syllabus details. To elicit answers
      the teacher needs this foundation
      knowledge of the exams.
      Repetitive practice lacks innovative
enthusiasm for the subject, and it is
hard to respond to a cd. The Aural
Trainer to download and respond to
gives the student a better ability overall.

Essential reading and listening for all music teachers teaching graded music exam material and for students to study for themselves.

When you not a nautral piano player, they brill. Not sure about this sight singing, that bit of a pain. I don't sing brillantly.

I use this book and cd every day now. It is a great way for students to learn to train their ears and vocals

My daugher was sitting for her grade 4 cello exam with ABRSM and we decided to ensure that she received the best preparation prior to the exam. We found that the Aural training in practice was simple to follow without a teachers guidance and yet professional in the manner it was laid out. My daughter is 11 years old and found that she was able to read the instructions in the book and follow the cd with ease.

The examples in this book are too easy. My son did everything correctly in his practice with this book, but he scored very low in the exam. I heard the exam from outside, and the singing passage was far more complicated and longer (sounded very much like the main theme from the first movement of Beethoven's Symphony NO. 2, which is in D major, but played in F major), and the rhythm and the time signature (C ii) were much more tricky than the ones in the book (it was waltz played very quickly, so it sounded like it was in compound time). None of these examples will prepare you to this level.
